I definitely had fun creating a look for this challenge. I ended up getting my inspiration from my favorite cartoon of that era: Jem & the Holograms.

And here I am, the tanned filipina version of Jem.

When I decided to work on my 80s FOTD, I used good ole Google to search for some inspiration. I decided to go for a Jem look and then I was thinking Oh my What should I wear though? So I did some more Google searching and found some inspiration on the clothing of that era.

I then rummaged through my things and threw on the bed anything that would be 80s. I wanted to get the over the shoulder type t-shirt but I didn't have anything. I grabbed one of Mr. Man's white T-Shirts and thought to myself, if I cut it here, I should be able to get some shoulder action going, but I had to ask Mr. Man first to see if it was ok for me to cut his shirt and he said ok.

And because I used Jem as my makeup inspiration I decided to go for a pink and white look. I got lucky with the jewelry as I have a ton of pink and white items so that was in my favor.

The jean skirt I'm wearing is something I have not worn in soooo long as you can see it is very short. I tried to see if by any chance I had any leggings to go with it but I didn't so you're going to stick to seeing my tan legs, LOL.

And for throwback purposes, here are some tidbits of information on how my life was when I was growing up in the 80s.

1980: I was born

1984-1987: The theme to my birthday parties was Strawberry Shortcake.

1985: My older brother begged my mom to buy him the original Nintendo (NES) for Christmas that year and he couldn't wait until Christmas morning so he ended up opening it before and only had the box that was wrapped by my mom to open for Christmas that year. Some of my favorite original games on Nintendo were: Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, Legend of Zelda (the gold one), Friday the 13th (even though it freaked me out most of the time), Kid Icarus and Castlevania.

1985: For my birthday that year, my mom bought me my most favorite childhood toy: Kid Sister *sings Kid Sister, Kid Sister, Kid Sister... Wherever I go she goes... Kid Sister, Kid Sister, Kid Sister.... Kid Sister and MEEEEE! Later down the line, I eventually un-did her braids and because her hair got extremely tangled, I cut it and gave her a bob and ended up naming her Stephanie. LOL! I also used to dress her up in my baby clothes that my mom saved.

1985: My older brother made my younger brother and I watch "A Nightmare on Elm Street" He told us it was a funny movie. Errr. I think that is what traumatized me because every once in a while I'll have these Freddy Krueger dreams and it scares the heck out of me. I mean I know it's fake and now that I'm older he doesn't scare me anymore, but those recurring dreams I have scare the heck out of me, I don't know why. It's pretty much like this: the door is opened a crack and all I see is Freddy Krueger's face and it grows bigger and worse yet there is a light behind him making him look even scarier. I mean I can talk about it and tell people about my dream and it doesn't scare me, but when I do have that dream, I'm waking up in night sweats. Great, I bet I'm probably going to dream about it tonight. ERRR!

1988: My older brother introduced me to my All Time Fave Movie, The Goonies. I had a major crush on Mikey. I love that movie and I can watch it over and over even to this day!

1989: My older brother introduced me to New Kids on the Block music. I instantly fell in love with Jordan Knight!

Some of my favorite things in the 80s: She-Ra and He-Man cartoons (my younger brother and I would pretend we were them. LOL), Rainbow Brite (my favorite sprite was the yellow one named Spark), Strawberry Shortcake, the Chicken McNugget toys from the Happy Meals at McDonalds, I also played the piano as I started when I was 5 years old.

I know I was born in the 80s, but I consider myself more of a 90s child as that is the era I was in my teens. I remember more of the 90s than I do of the 80s.

And to throw it back even more, I found some pictures of myself from the 80s. I was just a kid so I didn't get to have the big hair and the Madonna inspired clothing.

Enjoy!

I think I was 5 years old in this picture and that's my younger brother on the left side.

I remember this was after my 7th birthday party. I was wearing my new pajamas and robe. Looking back, I can't believe I had a boy haircut. Why would my mom do that to me???

I think I was 8 or 9 in this picture. I know I have about a billion pictures of me in front of our old house from what I've seen in my mom's photo albums. I am my mom's only daughter so she definitely had fun dressing me up and fixing my hair and making me take a billion pictures in front of the house. I believe my family was going to church the day this picture was taken.

I know this picture was not taken in the 80s, but I found it when I was looking through my box of pictures. This is me and my older brother at Santa Maria's Filipino Community Center's Pista Sa Nayon Queen (fundraising fuction) coronation ball. I ended up being Last Princess that year. This was 1996 and I was 15 years old in this picture. If you are filipina and you live in Santa Maria, it was a requirement to run for this event as many of my cousins and friends were also part of this at one point in their lives.

Wow, that was a long winded post, I hope you enjoyed my trip down memory lane. I had tons of fun working on this one, I can't wait to see what the others came up with!

Thanks for all the lovely comments ladies. I totally had fun coming up with this look and I had a ton of fun checking out all of the others.

So many memories to be had back in the 80s. Many of us were just kids back then, but still remembered a lot of what was happening.

Can't wait for the next challenge! Count me in!

Wow, you put a lot of work into this look! I don't remember JEM but everyone's bringing her up with their 80s look. I love the star! It's very nicely done :) I totally remember SheRa and HeMan and their animal sidekicks! Haha. I also consider myself as a 90s child :) You look absolutely adorable in your kid picture!! I can still see the resemblance :)

Jem reminds me of Ultra and the Laser Hearts. Also, nice layout you have here, miss. J.
