I have been wearing contacts since I got my first pair in 1997. So for me that's a little over 10 years now. As the years passed by, my prescription has changed, unfortunately for the worse every time I went to the eye doctor.
In the last five years, every time I get my eyes checked, I have been told by the eye doctor that I would have to refrain from wearing contacts for at least 2 weeks to let my eyes heal and let a lot more oxygen into my eyes.
I wake up at 6AM every morning and put my contacts in and wear them for a good 14-16 hours a day. Then on top of that it doesn't help that I work with computers all day long.
I have been using a plethera of different contact lense solutions and eye drops to help relieve the dryness and itchiness I go through on a daily basis.
I went from ReNu regular contact solution to the ReNu and Opti Free no rub contact solution, but to no avail, I still get the dryness by the end of the day, to the point where I feel like my contacts are stuck to my eyeballs.
Just last year, my current optometrist suggested I use Clear Care Contact lens solution.
What is Clear Care?
According to their website, this is what is says: Experience the feeling of fresh, clean, more comfortable lenses—guaranteed. For a healthy choice, try Clear Care® One Bottle Solution for Cleaning & Disinfecting.
Ideal for all types of soft contact lenses, Clear Care is clinically proven #1 for comfort and clarity of vision. And silicone hydrogel contact lens wearers rate Clear Care better for cleaning than the leading multi-purpose solutions.
With the exceptional cleaning action of hydrogen peroxide, Clear Care cleans and disinfects lenses like no multi-purpose solution can.
Clear Care, with its triple-action power, bubbles to actively clean and remove protein from your lenses.
Clear Care kills germs and bacteria that can cause eye infections.
There is a difference in Clear Care compared to your traditional contact lens solutions. You must use the special case it comes with, which they give you a new one in every box you buy. Also, you will notice that the bottle tip is red, meaning that once you put the solution on your lenses, you can NOT put it back in your eyes as it will burn your eyes.
Here is how to use it using my own images: (I used my colored contacts so you can see it better)
1. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before touching your eye or your contacts.
2. Put each contact in the labeled L or R side of the lens holder. (My prescription for each eye is totally different, so for me it's very important I put it in the correct side.)

3. Rinse both lenses with solution. I do this over the sink.
4. Fill up case with Clear Care solution up to line.
5. Drop the lens holder into the case and screw tight. Once in, you should already see it working when you see the bubbles.
6. Let it sit for at least 6 hours before using your contacts.
Can Clear Care be used with all types of soft contact lenses?
Yes. Clear Care is great for all types of contact lenses and is ideal for silicone hydrogel lenses, including: O2OPTIX™, NIGHT & DAY ®, PureVision®*, ACUVUE® ADVANCE™, and ACUVUE® OASYS.™*
Why do I have to use the lens case provided in the Clear Care pack for disinfecting my lenses?
Because there is no substitute for the lens case provided in the Clear Care pack. This lens case contains a unique neutralizing disc specially designed to neutralize Clear Care. It converts this powerful cleaning and disinfecting solution into a gentle saline solution, much like your own tears.
When my eye doctor suggested to use this, I am going to say this has been the best advice given to me. I love this stuff. My eye doctor prescribed me to use Acuvue Day and Night lenses as they allow more oxygen to pass through the lenses to your eyes. Technically, you can even sleep in these contacts. I personally like to take my lenses out every night to clean them and allow my eyes to get a breath of fresh air, but there are those times where I do get lazy and end up falling asleep with my contacts on. That rarely happens though. When I went to Santa Maria last October, I accidentally forgot my contact lens solution and was forced to sleep with my contacts on. Let me just say, that with the regular no rub solution I was using prior, my eyes would have been so dry and I would have been forced to lose a pair of contacts and stick to my eyeglasses. But with this solution, I was able to wear it that whole weekend without my eyes feeling irritated.
When putting on my contacts in the morning, I no longer get that irritating feeling like my contacts haven't been fully cleaned. Even with the no rub solutions, I still felt like I have to rub off any dirt or preservatives that was left on there.
For those contact lens wearers, I would totally suggest using this method as a daily routine. The only downside is once you put your contacts in the solution you can NOT wear them until at least 6 hours has passed. But if you're like me and you put them in the cleaning solution at night before you go to bed, then that shouldn't be a problem.
Hope this helps anyone out there. They even have a $9 rebate coupon (click here for coupon) so you can try it for free.
At CVS, it is $8.99 for a 12 oz. bottle, but if you're like me, I like to stock up and purchase the 2 bottle pack which at CVS it's $15.49.

i wear glasses, well I'm suppose to, but i don't know how ppl do the contacts thing, I can't get over how you touch your eyeball and then move the contact around. *shudders* more power to you for being able to do it.
WOW! This is very helpful! I definitely gotta check this out, I have an eye doctor appt. soon and it's nice to know about this, I hardly wear colored contacts unlike some who can wear it everyday, but like you, I too love letting my eyes "breathe" so I'll wear them every now and then on special occasions or whatnot!
hmm, I may have to ask my dr. about this solution when I go in for a follow-up next week. I'm on Oasys lenses and they're a godsend compared to the lenses I'd been using. I wear my contacts entirely too long, and as a result blood vessels grew into my cornea & left permanent damage (I can still see, but I can't get lasik). I try to take my lenses out as soon as possible when I get home to let my eyes "breathe"...but this looks like it would get rid of more of the proteins that I always see on my lenses, even with the no-rub solutions.
Wow, look at that contraption twin! I have the regular contact holder, boring, haha. I use Opti-Free ReplenISH since I heard of those Bausch & Lomb ones causing those funky eye problems. I already have a congenial eye problem so no more problems thank you, lol.
Hope you're having a great week so far hun!
wow, this is great! i have the same problem with my contacts feeling dry within a matter of hours. i have to most definitely try this now. the great thing is that all of my contact cases look like the one you have! i like them better because they're just easier access than the regular contact cases. thanks for sharing! :]
Coooolll. Thanks for the great help! :)
etherealprey - once upon a time, i used to wear only glasses, but then my eyesight got so bad to the point where i would have to wear them all day long and it would give me headaches, so i converted to contacts. i would go for lasik, but i was informed by my eye doctor that I can't get the surgery done.
nessa - i used to wear colored contacts on a daily basis, but payed the price because i have a slight astigmatism in my right eye so it would look like i'm looking up when i'm looking straight at you because they would move so darn much in my eye. but definitely check this out because like I said, it definitely benefitted me.
mayaari - i feel you on the change of the type of lenses. when i switched over to day and night, it definitely felt different. but ask your doctor if this solution is right for you. I tend to get a lot of dry spots on my eye and my doctor thinks it's because of the preservatives of the other no rub solutions that's why she recommended clear care. as for lasik, i been advised not to get it yet because my prescription is not stable, it gets worse every year.
lynne - yes, twin, i too switched over to replenish, but it still gave me the same effects as the bausch and lomb ones. If you want, ask your eye doc about this one because like I said, my lenses feel a whole lot cleaner using clear care.
christiana - even if your other lenses holders look like this one, you gotta make sure you use the one that comes in the box of clear care. apparently the metal thing at the bottom is the thing that helps neutralize the solution to make it safe to put in your eyes after 6 hours. but definitely give this a try. i'm very sure it'll help out a lot.
christy - no prob, girl!
My mom actually uses something very similar to Clear Care cause she works mad hours, but I had no idea that it will make a dramatic difference for the dry contact situation. Damn, that will definitely help me. Thanks for the post! I will try it out when I start working again. Have you tried finding a pair of glasses that you can wear outside your home? Of course, if you're like me, I still prefer to wear contacts, but you never know, I bet you'll look smokin hot in a whole different way with a pair on :)
wow so cool! i have the kind of contacts you sleep in so i only take my contacts out like...actually only when they bother me...which is not good...i need this lil doodad!
So, you don't use any other solution at all? Instead of leaving your contacts in regular case w/ Opti-Free (for eg)you leave it in this every night? Or can you switch every now and then? Does the bottle get used up really fast?
Thanks! :)
anonymous - When I started using this, I have not used any other solution. Because of my problem with dryness and dry spots appearing on my eye, my eye doc recommended using this solution as there are no preservatives left on the contacts once it's been cleaned with this solution. Every night, I leave my contacts in the special case it comes with.
As for how many days usage the bottle can get, I'm going to have to say a good month before you have to buy a new bottle. it's a 12 fl. oz bottle. hope this helps.
Thanks! I have one more question, sorry lol :) So, If you need to rinse your contact (if it pops out or anything like that) you CAN use regular solution? Because you can't use this one...
I usually keep a small bottle of re-wetting drops in my purse so when I'm not at home, I can use that, but again that's a rare thing for me.
After using clear care, I rarely come across the problem of my contacts drying up or popping out.
Another tip, you can re-use the solution in the container as a standby after soaking your contacts for 6 hours, just make sure to use new solution every night to clean.
hope this helps
Clear care solution is terrible! Heaven forbid you mistake the solution for saline! I made that dreaded mistake and have a burning eye now! Be EXTREMELY careful with this solution.
anonymous - Clear Care should never be used straight from the bottle. You must always wait at least 6 hours for the solution to neutralize in the contact lenses case before using your contacts. Once the 6 hours has passed the neutralized solution can be used if needed as a saline solution for up to a day.
But you always want to use fresh clear care solution every night you put your contacts in the case and again wait 6 hours before putting your contacts back in your eye.
OMG i accidentally put the solution in my eyes once....and they burned on contact and turned bloodshot! i thought i was goin to go blind! haha...damn someone shoulda warned me. but i'm fine now, haha
hi there,
thanks for the wonderful recommendation! would definitely love to try it for myself as other multi-purpose solution that i have tried couldnt clean my lenses well enough (still can see debris left over after a day of soaking).
just to confirm,
this clean care solution really clean much better than normal multi-purpose solution?
thanks :)
This is the absolute BEST contact solution EVER! When I found this a couple of years ago, I told everyone I knew about it. They're hooked too. It sure beats rubbing lenses clean (which I always end of tearing!). Who ever created No Rub with those other solutions hasn't tried this stuff! The bubbles really clean your lenses, and it's like putting in a brand new pair each day!
I'm so glad there are others who love this!
Up here in Canada when it's only $12.69 for a 2pk at Costco...then I stock up,
I just wanted to add that you might want to emphasize that the reason why doctors recommend clear care is because it uses natural solutions that exists in your eyes. It's healthier. People have irritations from the toxic chemicals in the cleaning agents and my doctor saw the inflammation around my eye ball and recommended it to me. He said to only use the cleaning optic free if you need to take it out and in often. -Sat
I know this is an older post but hopefully you can help me ;0) I have looked all over the web and that is what led me to your blog. I am trying to find out if Clear Care is safe to use on Cosmetic Colored Contacts. I uses Solotica! Do you have any idea? I have heard that peroxide based solutions can bleach out colored contacts or change the color but that source is not verified. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!
ThX!

I have used this sollution and is as good as you say. My pair of contact lenses were cheap and I thought they'd give me aches, but they don't.
In what colored contact lenses are concerned, but not only, people should be as careful as you are, in order to avoid any eye problems due to negligence.
