FOTD: White Cranberry

Most of you, if not all of you, who visit my blog know that red/burgundy is my most favorite color. The other morning with no where to go, I decided to just play around in my makeup stash and I busted out the Cranberry eyeshadow and see if I can work it with the Foxy Lady eyeliner I picked up in my last MAC haul. Here is what I came up with....

No contouring here... it could be the angle combined with the fact that I think I'm losing weight in my face because it's all going to the baby bump. LOL. Oh and I was on my laptop listening to something (forgot what though) so that's why I'm wearing a headset. Looks like I work for 411, haha.

DIY: Charging Station

December 17, 2008 by Jaclyn Rose 7 comments

I haven't had a magazine subscription in so long, I used to subscribe to YM (wow, teenager years), Parenting, Jane, Super Street and Import Tuner. My last subscription that finally stopped was Import Tuner. I wanted to subscribe to computer magazines but I had a customer who always dropped off his copies when he was done with them so I really didn't have to subscribe.

One of the computer magazines he would drop off is Maximum PC. If you're a gadget lover like I am or a computer enthusiast then you'll enjoy this magazine. Anyways, in the July issue there was a DIY (do-it-yourself) section and one of the projects featured was a charging station.

With technology these days we are charging EVERYTHING! From our cell phones, digital cameras, video cameras, iPods, mp3 players, hand held gaming devices and the list goes on. If your house is like my house where chargers are lost all time, this may just be the project for you.

I'll guide you with a step by step on how to achieve your very own charging station. Please remember I got this idea from Maximum PC magazine and the pictures below are from me doing this project myself.

Here is what it looks like completely done.

Keep reading to make your very own.

What you'll need:
pictured.
1. A shoe box, luckily I found one lying around, the bigger the easier to work with. Or you can purchase a craft box from an art store like Michael's.
2. Surge Suppressor/Power Strip
3. box cutter
4. Craft Paper, to cover up the shoe box
5. Decorative frames or something similar
6. labels (optional)

not pictured. I realized after taking initial picture that there are items that are also needed.
- scissors
- glue gun or craft glue
- scotch tape
- zip ties (to organize the charger cables)

close up of the decorative frames I picked up. Well actually they are pendants which I found in the necklace making section at Michaels. You want to take care to make sure that the frames you pick out are big enough to fit different size plugs from your different chargers. I made the mistake of getting them too small. I eventually made them work, lol.

So first things first, you want to make sure your surge suppressor/power strip fits in the box (as shown in the top left portion of the image above). Then once you've determined it fits, wrap shoe box with craft paper like your wrapping a present. Because of the odd shape of the Skechers shoe box I was using, I had to figured out how to get to look ok.

Shoebox nicely wrapped in craft paper. You can use gift wrapping paper or different colored paper to give it a nice touch and feel. I used black since this will be for my boys.

Next you want to take to the side of the box and mark a hole to fit the power strips plug (shown left side). Then you will take your box cutter and cut it out along the lines (shown right side).

How it looks so far with power strip in the box and it's plug through the hole you just made in the side.

Take some of your devices and place on box to determine where you want to place the frames (or in my case, pendants)

Trace with a pencil where you want to cut and cut with a box cutter. Take a glue gun or craft glue and glue frames to box.

Thread the ends of your charger through the holes like so.

And here is what the inside looks like. All of that cable clutter will be neatly hidden away inside the box. Use zip ties to organize the cables. And you're done! At this point you can also label each cable because sometimes they do look alike, but that's optional especially if you're always changing out your chargers.

Here is the charging station neatly snuggled between my boys two computers. Now they have their charging station with their PSP's, Gameboys and soon to be Nintendo DS's within reach from their computers. And they won't lose their chargers! Thank goodness!

The thing I like about this too is that it didn't cost me too much to make it. I mean if you have the items lying around the house then it really won't cost you more than 10 bucks to make. I only had to buy the craft paper, decorative frames, so frames = $2.50 and craft paper = $3.99 so about $8 after tax.

Another thing is that it is easy to change out chargers when you need to or for example if you need to bring a charger with you. I made six holes but I didn't or don't have to use them all at once. I can also move them further apart if need be depending on the size of the device being charged.

So there you have it, a simple DIY project for your electronics that need to be charged!

First off, a big Congratulations to Mimi of Beauty is Androgynous for winning L's Holiday Contest. She definitely rocked it and looked totally beautifully!

Anyways, whilst doing my look for L's Contest I also did a video tutorial. Here it is in all it's glory. After uploading it, I realized the words come out a little blurry so hopefully you can still get the idea of how I did it. Anyways, enjoy!

Since it's the holidays, I'd thought I share some past pictures of Mr. Man and I at his company's holiday parties that we've attended over the last few years or so. Keep reading to see the pics!

This year marked the first year that we did not attend Mr. Man's company party. I really don't know why we didn't go, but here are some pictures of the past few that we've been to.

Holiday Party 2007 - Right before Mr. Man lost 30-40 pounds

Holiday Party 2006 - Dress look familiar? Yup, it's the one I rocked for L's Holiday contest. This was the first and only other time I wore this dress.

Holiday Party 2005 - The year I got my braces off

Holday Party 2004 - I had braces on in this pic

Holiday Party 2003 - The year I got braces. I was also very very sick but still went and partied, lol.

Holiday Party 2002 - Mr. Man's first year with his company. They made him and all the new employees sing Christmas songs in front of everyone else. It's their holiday tradition.

Now I wanna go to a holiday party. =(, for the first time Mr. Man and I didn't attend his company party this year. I don't have a clue why, but whatever. When Mr. Man saw the pictures he said it looks like I'm going to prom or a winter formal. LOL. I had fun coming up with this look. The only non fun part was trying to zip up the back of my dress. Yeah, that didn't go too well. I haven't worn this dress in two years and I don't think me being preggos helped any so hopefully you can't tell that it wasn't even zipped up in the back in these pictures. HAHA! I also did a video tutorial on this look. I will be posting that up as soon as I'm done editing it. Until then, enjoy! And Thanks L, for the opportunity!

Pregnancy Update: Week 17

December 11, 2008 by Jaclyn Rose 9 comments

It's week 17 of my pregnancy and let's say that all of my previous morning sickness feelings are completely gone! I actually haven't felt it since my 13th week so I've been lucky on that.

Although I do have my doctor a little worried because I've lost weight since my first visit. But we accounted that for the morning sickness and the fact that I was vomiting like crazy. Since then I have only gained 2 pounds, but I have been eating like I've never eaten before. Maybe this baby needs even more food. HAHA! I eat whatever I can handle never going overboard so I don't understand why I haven't gained weight. Anyways, we'll see how it goes in the next month and where I'm at weight wise by my next visit.

Anyways, for those of you that missed my baby bump pic in the last post, here it is again (only because I don't want this to be a pictureless post)

baby bump at 17 weeks

Anyways, today's doctor appointment was hell in waiting time. My appointment was at 11AM and I didn't get to see the doctor until almost 12:30PM. Apparently they were backed up or something. I usually am in and seen in about 15 minutes the last few times I was there.

Today's appointment the doctor checked the baby's heartbeat and it was beating super fast. She told me it sounds like a very very healthy baby! So thank goodness for that. I then asked her when I could find out the gender of the baby and she informed me that they have that done at around 20 weeks. Soooooooo, that's about 3 weeks from now. They will call me to schedule an appointment and I would have to do it at their other facility so I'm super excited about that. I'll definitely let everyone know as soon as I find out.

I also picked up a flyer for a 4D ultrasound office that is close by my house. I showed it to Mr. Man and we decided to have it done. After checking out the packages they offer and scoping out their website, it looks like the best images are when you are between 26-34 weeks so I will be making an appointment to get that done for a keepsake. Packages range from $100-$230. For more info: Prenatalpeek.com

And last but not least, if you've heard me complain, which I have been doing a lot these last few weeks, I've been having horrible lower back pain, close to my tailbone. So I also brought that up to the doctor and she recommended that I use a maternity belt. Something like this...

this one from Target.com

What she explained to me is that the muscles that support the uterus while pregnant gets stretched out with each pregnancy and never goes back to it's original elasticity therefore I'll be lacking support. I never had this much of back problem with my 2 boys and this time around since it is my 3rd pregnancy, it's really kicking me in the butt errr... shall I say back. I will be picking this up real soon. Maybe by tomorrow. I'll see how this helps and hopefully it eases the pain in my back.

I almost forgot to add that I can feel my baby move now. It feels like little flutters or butterflies in your stomach. They call it "quickening" - The first butterfly-like movements of the baby. These movements are usually first noticed between 18 and 22 weeks. Most first time moms won't feel the baby move until after 22 weeks so don't feel discouraged. At first I couldn't tell if it was because I was hungry or I had gas, but after feeling it a LOT, I finally realized it was the baby. It's so exciting because I don't remember this feeling with my other two. I mean I remember the definite kicking in the later months of pregnancy, but not the fluttering I'm feeling right now.

Other than that, I'm happy to report a healthy pregnancy thus far. Maybe the next "Pregnancy Update" post I will be announcing the gender!

Here is some info from BabyCenter.com about Pregnancy: Week 17

Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.

Money Saving Tip: Drink Mix

by Jaclyn Rose 0 comments

If your house is like my house where you have to have a variety of drinks available to drink, then here's a tip that might be just for you. We don't drink soda anymore at my house and sometimes water just doesn't cut it. We have milk, of course, for my growing boys and for us adults to enjoy chocolate milk every once in awhile or even a milkshake here and there.

But what about the other times when we want something a little more fruity for our taste. Fruit drinks can get pretty expensive like fruit punch. In our house a gallon bottle of Hawaiian fruit punch will only last 3 days at most.

So what I thought to do is this...

I bought a bottle of Hawaiian fruit punch and when it runs out, I bought a bottle of Kool-Aid mix to remake when needed. I did the same thing for the lemonade.

Question: Why not just buy an empty pitcher and the bottles or cans of drink mix? I figured that buying an empty pitcher would not be that much of a difference in price and by buying a bottle of punch, for a few cents more I get 3 days worth of drinks. Am I right?

Anyways, here's a run down of what I spent on each.

Bottle of punch: $4.19 (1 gallon)
Bottle of Kool-Aid mix: $4.19 (can make 2 gallons)
So I can make two bottles of Kool-Aid for the same price as one bottle of punch. Every week I only have to buy a bottle of Kool-Aid mix.

Bottle of Lemonade: $1.50 (2 liters, a little over 2 quarts)
Can of Lemonade mix: $8.99 (can make 34 quarts, so seventeen 2 liter bottles)

Of course, depending where you shop, you can definitely get it for a lot cheaper. So more money saving for you.

So while I'm saving money, I'm also recycling the bottles by re-using them. Nice! If you want to save even more money, I know they have fruit punch that are about $1 or so and you save more money that way. I know this tip has probably been used by many, but I just thought to share this with you.

Level 80, BlogTV & the Baby Bump

December 8, 2008 by Jaclyn Rose 11 comments

Where the heck have I been? Addicted to BlogTv and playing WoW! That's where I've been.

Thanks to the lovely ladies, I've become addicted to blogTV.com. It's soooo fun interacting and chatting it up, watching, co-hosting, hosting with LadyL, Pink, Mimi, Wuzzy, prey, Kimberly Tia, Tina Marie Online, Tammy, Imee (who by the way needs speakers, lol), Roxx, along with new peoples I met on there.

There is a fair share of weirdos that like to stalk, lol, especially L and Pink! haha. Can we say "ewww" to the guy who wants the shoe on the head? HAHA!

Here's a screen shot of one my host sessions. We were talking about gaming and WoW and that WoW South Park episode. L referenced "I have no Mana" so I wrote it on my screen for her! I heart L!

Oh and Mr. Man had asked me if I could figure out how I can broadcast my WoW play so he can watch it while he's at work. I figured it out and eventually got a program (WebCamMax) that utilizes your webcam and you can broadcast your desktop and anything that is showing on your screen. So what did I do? I broadcast my WoW play, LOL! Ask the ladies, everytime they go to my channel, I'm up on that! HAHA!

Which leads me to my next topic! My character, Jrose, a Gnome Warlock, hit level 80 today! I even broadcasted the moment I ding'd 80. Here's the recorded broadcast...

JRose Dings Level 80!

When I start a broadcast, I usually Twitter it. So if you don't follow yet or don't have twitter then get one! =) You can also sign up for BlogTV and subscribe to my channel. When my show starts, it'll send you an email if you have notifications set to on. Follow me on Twitter here. Check out my BlogTV page here, JRose Live.

I'm also thinking about doing some of my Ask J.Rose series live! I'll definitely have those scheduled so you know when to tune in. I'll also be accepting questions for each session. As soon as I figure out how it'll work, I'll make a post on it! If you already have some questions or topics you'd like to hear my two cents on, feel free to comment it, email me jaclynrose at teamlegion dot net or post it up in my chatbox.

And now........ the moment you've been waiting for, lol, j/k! I finally decided to take a picture of the baby bump since I finally have one. It took me a lot of thinking and debating whether or not I should post up this pic. So please don't make fun of me, pweeeeease.

Baby Bump at 17 weeks

Showing much? I can actually cover it up pretty well depending on what I'm wearing. My jeans are getting too tight now. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do about clothes because I'm not quite ready for maternity clothes and I've been lounging in shorts all day long. So we'll see.

I'm still not entirely sure if I'm going to the Pow Wow this time around. I really want to go, but because of money constraints I might not be able to go. Hopefully I'll figure it out by the end of the week. So, Pink, I'll let you know for sure by the end of the week.

So what have we learned in this post? Follow me on Twitter to find out random things I'm doing throughout my day and subscribe to my live show: JRose Live to watch me play some WoW or catch me chattin' it up with the lovely ladies and some nice gentlemen, but trust that I'll kick and ban the weirdos. Oh and one last thing you've learned is that I'm only going to get bigger in the next months! =)
