J.Rose Online Hot Spots

March 31, 2009 by Jaclyn Rose

When I say Hot Spots, I don't mean the coolest nightclub or the most happening spot to hang out at.

I am talking about shops, stores, salons and spas in which I receive excellent service and have been patronizing for some time.

This entry will always be updated as I come across different places in my everyday life and needs.

It will include names and places of businesses and some sample pictures. I feel if I receive excellent service I will definitely pass the word along. I mean the best advertisement is word of mouth. Am I right?

In the past, I've written about certain places I go to and sometimes even dedicate a whole entry to that particular place. I want to spread the love and tell you about that place. Most places will be local to me, but if you're ever in the area, you'll know where to go. Some places I list will also be online or available online. Basically this is my way of spreading the word.

Salon Heaven
Ask for Leo, tell him Jackie sent you ;P
15155 E. Gale Ave (corner of Gale Ave and Turnbull Canyon Rd)
Hacienda Heights, CA 91745
(626) 968-8746

When I first moved to Southern California 9 years ago, I had to start everything all over. I moved down here to be with Mr. Man and that meant I had no friends, no idea where anything was and no idea on where to go to get my hair done.

I found Leo and Salon Heaven because it was literally around the corner from where we used to live. I actually started by going to Fantastic Sam's to get my hair cut, the same place Mr. Man has been going to all his life, but I didn't like the way they cut my hair.

And after that first haircut with Leo, I went there all the time! I even remember getting my very first full set of acrylics there with Sophia, the nice Russian lady, who did nails. She's not there anymore.

Anyways, I always went to see Leo and he would fit me in anytime I needed an appointment even that same day if he wasn't too busy. I remember a couple of times he even opened his shop on a day they were regularly closed just to do my hair for photoshoots I had in the past.

The children on his business card above are actually his kids, aren't they just adorable? Anyways, whenever I go in to see Leo, it's like seeing an old friend and catching up on our usual chit chat. I love going there! As a matter of fact, quite a few years ago, I found out that one of my ex co-workers also goes to Leo for his haircuts.

I know this blurb is a little lengthy, but I'm telling you Leo is the best! Not just as a hairstylist, but as a person!

And for pictorial purpose, here are some pictures of the different hairstyles I've had with Leo.

Let's start with my most recent haircut - I love love how he can get my hair to look like that with soooo much volume. Here's the original post: Got My Hair Done!

this was one of the first haircuts I've gotten from Leo. I wanted my usual and safe A-Line bob, but he convinced me to get a layered look and put in a few highlights. Love at first sight, I'm telling you. By the way, this pic was taken when I only had one son. My youngest was baking in the oven, hence the strategically placed oldest son covering up my baby bump. LOL.

So we continued the layered look and experimented with different colors.

But I always went back to the dark brown with blonde highlights because that is what Mr. Man loves.

Shear Artistry Salon
347 Diamond Bar Blvd (corner of Diamond Bar Blvd and Golden Springs Dr)
Diamond Bar, CA 91765
(909) 861-1112

shearartistry.com

On their business card, they have two locations. I go to the one in Diamond Bar. I remember the first time I got my eyebrows threaded. I went with my sister in law to this place in Cerritos (the name slips my mind). I remember how clean my brows looked. That was years and years ago.

Anyways, I always wanted to get them threaded again, but never knew where to go and there was no way I was going to drive to Cerritos just to get my eyebrows threaded. So anyways, a few years ago we moved to Diamond Bar and I was driving around getting to know the area and I saw this place.

I went there a couple of times to get my eyebrows threaded and the ladies that work there have always been nice to me so I've been going there ever since.

If you any of you remember, one time, stupid me, decided to go to a different spot to get my eyebrows threaded and man, did it go extremely wrong. Anyways ever since that incident I've never gone anywhere else except Shear Artistry. Here's the original post on my bad threading experience: Brows Gone Bad!

I've also had other services done at this place from facials, to underarm waxing, to even a brazilian wax (first time ever too, not as bad as I thought it would be).

They also do hair and makeup, but I've never had that done. They sell an array of salon products from haircare and skincare to nail polish (OPI in particular), some makeup and beauty tools.

Nail Spa Lane
23419 E. Golden Springs Dr (corner of Diamond Bar Blvd and Golden Springs Dr)
Diamond Bar, CA 91765
(909) 861-1610

This place is actually in the same plaza as Shear Artistry Salon so most of the time I kill two birds with one stone. Ok not literally, lol, but I get my eyebrows threaded then drive up the parking lot to get my manicure/pedicure. Oh and they are also located right next door to the Thai restaurant in which I get my order of Pad See Ew from.

Anyways, as with any nail salon place (well the few that I've been to), you get greeted by EVERYONE there! I usually go once every 2-3 months and they always seem to remember me and there is no one in particular I go to. The ladies and the one guy there are always nice to me when I come in.

So yes, I'm pretty easy to please. I go in a few times, you're nice to me, give me good service and I'll go to your establishment all the time.

The thing I like about this place is that no matter how busy they are, I never wait more than 10 minutes to be seated in a chair. And there were times I've gone in and they had a packed house! (especially on the weekends).

And this is what I usually get done when I go in. The red acrylics do cost a little more than your french tip acrylics, but aren't they so pretty? I get complimented everytime I get them done this way and asked where I got them done. So I'm telling you now, Nail Spa Lane.

Melody's Makeup Outlet
11 South 2nd St.
Alhambra, CA 91801
(626) 281-7707

I first heard of this place from blog posts from Anne, Christiana and Nessa.

If you recall, we had a beauty blogger meet up last July at Melody's. Here's the original post: Melodys Makeup Outlet Haul and Meet Up.

pic of my bff, Ceejae, myself, Nessa of NessasaryMakeup.com, the owners Rob & Melody and Anne of Yummiebitez.com

They carry discounted and discontinued products from MAC, Too Faced, Smashbox, Stila, etc. and is very similar to CCO (Cosmetics Company Store).

It's been awhile since I've been there, maybe I'll hit it up soon. =)

Here are a couple of posts that you may find informative by Anne on Melody's: Melody's Makeup Outlet & Q & A about Melody's Makeup Outlet

Dot Com Beauty Supply
21010 Golden Springs Dr
Walnut, CA 91789
(909) 839-0607

Korean Brand false eyelashes including Shisem

This is actually a recent find for myself. Here's the original post: Lashes, Lashes, Lashes. There are many of you who are always on the lookout for Shisem lashes and here's one place in So Cal that you can find it. If I should ever come across other places, I will definitely post them up here. But let me just say that the owner of Dot Com Beauty Supply is very very nice!

These are just a few places that I can really recommend, I will constantly update this list as I come across new places. Hopefully this helps out some of you.

I added a quick link to the right hand side under J.Rose Favorites so you always have easy access to this page.

Are there any places you'd like to give a shout out to? Leave it in the comments section. Who knows, if I'm in the area, I might check it out myself!
